Is your food causing fatigue?

Most of us are familiar with a daily "wall" energy crash. It's that time of the day (usually mid-afternoon), when you feel like taking an hour long nap...at your desk.

Why does this happen? You see, as we carry-on throughout the day, different hormones wax and wane. This is all due to an individuals circadian rhthm. After lunch (which for most is a high carbohydrate meal), our blood sugars may spike, causing insulin (a storage fat hormone), to come to the rescue. Insulin will then help to metabolize those sugars in turn managing your blood sugar to a normal level. This process often gives us that fatigued feeling.

How can you help? Eat a balanced diet, of course! Avoiding a surge in your blood sugar can make a significant impact on your afternoon feeling of fatigue. If this feeling of fatigue persists, you may also seek the help of your primary care provider.
