Why is breakfast so important? It seems like we're constantly being nagged to be sure to eat it, make it healthy and part of our daily routine. What purpose does it really serve?
Breakfast breaks a fasting cycle from dinner to breakfast...as in "break" fast. Most people have not eaten for 8 or more hours. Your body has gone through a "regenerative" cycle, your mind is well rested and you are ready to start another day. But what happens if you run out the door without a healthy bite-to-eat?
You're probably feeling great at the beginning. You've had your coffee and finding your groove for the day. However, once lunch time hits, you have hit an energy "low". So you go to lunch, eat about twice the portion you had hoped to and get back to work feeling lousy. This is because you skipped a breakfast high in protein.
Eating protein for breakfast (within 1 hour or so of waking), helps to keep your blood sugars stable throughout the day. Stable blood sugars mean: controlled energy, less cravings, less fatigue and a controlled appetite.
